Losing weight requires a calorie deficit, meaning that you have to consume less energy than your body needs. This can be achieved by your reducing calorie intake and/or increasing your physical activity level. As for most things in life, in order to be successful, consistency is key! If you want to lose weight, you have to consume fewer calories (energy) than your body needs. This forces it to use your fat reserves as an energy source. The fat is oxidized, or “burned” to generate the energy your body needs. Your diet is the most important factor in influencing your body weight. You should eat high-quality foods with a low calorie density - these provide little energy, but keep you full because of their relatively high volume. As far as drinks go, you shouldn't drink anything that contains calories when you're on a weight loss diet (except during training, if necessary)! Water, coffee, tea and zero or light drinks are allowed. Protein shakes are allowed too - because the proteins they contain serve as building blocks for your muscles rather than being burned for energy!
In addition to reducing your calorie intake, you can also achieve a calorie deficit by increasing your calorie consumption (increase your body´s need for energy). This is limited, as you can't be physically active all day - but diet and exercise go hand in hand. Try to integrate more activity into your everyday life - for example, by taking a short walk during every lunch break or taking the bike to travel short distances. Combined with your regular workouts or cardio sessions in the gym, all the little steps will add up in no time! Increased physical activity, combined with a balanced diet, will keep you slim, fit and healthy!
Don´t remove all your favorite dishes from your meal plan. The more you restrict yourself, the harder it will be to stick to your diet - and when it comes to weight loss, nothing is more important than consistency! So get used to enjoying your favorite foods in moderation instead of completely banning them. There is now a large selection of low-calorie, reduced-sugar and high-protein alternatives for many regular foods. If you feel the craving for a chocolate bar, you can snack on one of our numerous protein bars instead. They taste just as good, but have much better nutritional values.
